Review: Dr. Althea Water Glow Skin Renewal Hydrogel Mask ★★☆☆☆
Dr. Althea’s Water Glow Skin Renewal Hydrogel Mask contains an impressive array of premium herbal and floral ingredients in this rich essence for supreme hydration and moisture renewal. By building and restoring the skin moisture barrier, damaging environmental irritants are kept out, while the nourishing essence and hydration is maintained. The mask can help in maintaining long-lasting hydration, tightening, whitening, anti-allergy, relieving inflammation, smoothening wrinkles, relieving spots, and increasing skin elasticity.
My skin is feeling pretty crappy today. PIE is redder than usual, on top of overall irritation and dryness . I’ve cleansed, toned, and exfoliated my skin. Find out how I normally prep my skin for masking.
Out of the packet, I detected a light floral fragrance which smelled suspiciously like rose. It was such a challenge to pull the pieces out of the packet. The 2-piece hydrogel mask was sandwiched between 2 plastic backings and drenched in gel essence. The essence was rather tacky hence they were stuck to the inside walls on the packaging.
Another observation was the white opaque hydrogels. I’ve never encountered one that’s opaque, they’ve always been translucent.
Again, the pieces were so slippery, it was a little challenging to place it on my face. Both sides were equally smooth, so it doesn’t matter which side went on the skin.
Fit was just slightly less than great due to the oblong nose flap. Other than that, 2-piece hydrogel mask usually give me a great overall fit.
Adherence was disappointing. The bottom piece kept slipping down, perhaps this was better suited for use while laying down.
I had this on for 30 mins.
There was very little essence left to pat in. Skin felt very hydrated and tacky. There was no need for a moisturizer. Oily skin types might want to skip this mask because it might induce feelings of ickiness. I also noticed a slight reduction in redness and slight increase in brightening. Pore size is also smaller, hydrogels often give me this effect. However, it did pill up on me once it dried down.
Below is a side by side comparison of the before and after pictures.
Overall, the effects were nothing impressive aside from basic hydration. I’ve used much better hydrogels and much better masks with a more affordable price tag.
