Neogence Malic Acid Renewing Mask claims to treat acne-prone skin with naturally effective botanicals extracted from fruits and flowers. It’s free from harsh chemical fillers and is able to control oil production without over-drying your skin.
Not to be confused with mandelic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid derived from almonds, malic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid derived from apples. It is gentle on sensitive skin thus making it the perfect choice for those who are acne-prone.
Lithospermum is a flower extract with antibacterial properties that prevent acne-causing bacteria, helping to achieve smooth, clean, and moisturized skin.
I’m still dealing with a cluster of 4 cystic acne on my right cheek, all but one is still feeling tender. I’ve cleansed, toned, and exfoliated my skin. Find out how I normally prep my skin for masking.
Out of the packet, I did not detect any scent. The 100% compostable sheet had medium thickness yet felt very soft. It came sandwiched between a thick fabric backing and a perforated plastic backing. This made it really easy to unfold. Essence was clear and runny yet it wasn’t dripping furiously from the sheet like I was expecting.
This mask gave me a really weird fit. On one hand it totally covered my humongous forehead, which is rare, and was long enough to also generously cup my chin. There was also a very slight excess on the sides to cater to wider faces. However, there was so much horizontal excess on the bottom half of my face that doing my best to get a great fit still ended with a ton of creases. The mouth hole was just a slit, which resulted in my top lip getting nourished as well. Nice as that may sound, it was already a really uncomfortable experience.
Adherence was great on the areas above my jaw. South of the jaw, the excess creases were letting in air, which made the mask detach from my face.
I don’t usually dwell on fit issues with sheet masks because I just don’t consider them all that critical. The effects are most important to me.
I had this on for a total of 30 mins, it was starting to dry out.
The overall shape of the mask sheet looked like an onigiri. Yums!
There was very little essence to pat in, it absorbed after a few quick pats. Finish was matte and non-tacky, which was perfect for oily skin types. My dehydrated skin type found the hydration level a little lacking, which was not a big deal since I could easily layer on a moisturizer.
I noticed an increase in brightening and a reduction in redness, especially the area around my cluster of cysts. That one particular tender cyst wasn’t feeling as tender as before. Pores were also looking cleaner and smaller.
Below is a side by side comparison of the before and after pictures.
I’m impressed with this mask and would repurchase! Check out more reviews of Neogence sheet masks here.
