Lancôme Hydra Zen Anti-Stress Moisturizing Overnight Serum-in-Masque

Review: Lancôme Hydra Zen Anti-Stress Moisturizing Overnight Serum-in-Masque ★★★★.☆

Lancôme Hydra Zen Anti-Stress Moisturizing Overnight Serum-in-Masque (phew what a mouth-full!) is a luxurious, hydrating formula that combines the freshness of a serum with the relaxing application of a nighttime face mask a.k.a. sleeping mask. This overnight, intensely hydrating mask reduces visible signs of stress for a radiant, healthy-looking complexion. It absorbs quickly for a burst of refreshing moisture, and delivers a delicate, relaxing fragrance to calm your senses throughout the night.

The Hydra Zen range is best suited for those with sensitive skin, between the 20-30 age group. I happen to fit in that group! Lancôme has always been one of my highly-coveted brands. My beautiful mother owes her timeless beauty to them. She’s been using Lancôme’s beauty products for as long as I can remember. So when the opportunity to test this product came up, I seized it with no hesitation!

I’m sure everyone is familiar with how beautiful Lancôme’s product packaging is. 75 ml/2.6 oz of sleeping mask is contained in a heavy glass jar with the prettiest dusty rose shade. I found the outer box pretty oversized though, I’m guessing it’s to protect the glass jar from shattering should it encounter any knocks. As usual, the outer lid showcases a silver foil of their single-stalk rose logo. The plastic inner lid is also embossed with the same single-stalk rose logo.

The floral fragrance wafting out from the sleeping mask is signature of most of Lancôme’s products. The mask itself has a pretty pink tinge and was filled to the brim.

It had a thick gel consistency that is highly spreadable so a little goes a long way. The formula had a cooling effect upon touching the skin, this felt very soothing on irritated skin.

During these 2.5 weeks of testing, I used the product in my PM routine every other night. It’s extremely hydrating and I find myself using less toner and cream the next morning. After 2 weeks, I notice my skin looking healthier in the mornings. It is plump and even toned with minimal redness. I no longer wake up with tight, crepe-like skin.

Throughout the testing period I found that the product can be used in 3 different ways depending on the skin’s needs:

  1. Quick mask: Apply a thick layer on clean skin and tissue off the excess after 10 mins. This gives an instant boost of hydration. I love this method for those mornings when I’m in a hurry.
  2. Night gel: Apply a thin layer after toners and serums. It sank into the skin beautifully without a hydrating film. I wake up to a radiant complexion the next morning.
  3. Sleeping mask: Apply a thick layer after toners and serums. It forms a thin hydrating film on the skin, preventing moisture loss via evaporation overnight. I look well-rested and fresh.

I don’t have a preferred way, it just depends on my skin condition that night. As much as I love it and as much as it loves my skin, I don’t see myself repurchasing due to the price. Hence I will be rationing this and dread the day I see the bottom.

Albeit on the pricey side, this is still an effective and wonderful product. It is not for everyone’s purse strings but if you’re looking for a splurge-worthy item, I’d say go for it!
