About 17.05-C1 Everyday Face Cleanser:

Refresh your skin with our low foaming glycolic acid cleanser. This smooth, serum-like cleanser uses low dose glycolic acid to gently exfoliate dead skin and dirt while our sea botanical extract blend encourages collagen production and cell turnover. And because our plant-derived surfactant formula is pH optimized, it will leave your skin feeling healthy and supple, instead of tight and itchy.

Use with Everyday Face Serum and Everyday Face Moisturizer to maximize results.

Cruelty free and vegan. Formulated without SLS and SLES, parabens, PEGs, formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasing agents, silicone, phthalates and synthetic fragrances, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, EDTA, BHA and BHT, hydroquinone, triclosan, or triclocarban.

Elaine’s Thoughts on the Ingredients:

In place of SLS and SLES, this cleanser uses Cocamidopropyl betaine, a coconut oil-derived surfactant, as well as Disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, a gentler and non-irritating surfactant. Both are effective at cleansing but will not strip the skin of its natural lipids nor destroy the skin barrier.

Panthenol (Vitamin B5) nourishes and strengthens the skin barrier. Personally, aside from SLS and SLES, I normally do not bother with the rest of the ingredients in a cleanser. They are just a bonus and are not necessary. A cleanser stays on my skin for a minute max so I only look for a low pH level and ability to gently remove impurities without drying out my skin.

Ingredients: Water, Cocamidopropyl betaine, Glycerin, Urea, Disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, Decyl glucoside, Panthenol (vitamin B5), Tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), Glycolic acid, Sodium gluconate, Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, Laminaria digitata (sea kelp) extract*, Crithmum Maritimum (sea fennel) extract, Laminaria (algae) extract*, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl glycol

8 fl.oz. of product came in a tall, dark, opaque plastic bottle with an airless pump. This is my preferred dispenser for all kinds of fluid products. The darkness of the container slows down product disintegration via light and the airless pump is not only hygienic, but also enables me to get a consistent amount of product with every use. It is fuss-free and highly functional. I absolutely adore the minimalistic design of the bottle, label, and box. If I were to have my own skincare line, I would totally go for this look.

The cleanser dispenses easily out of the pump. It is clear and has a runny-gel consistency. I detected a faint clean scent, nothing too significant or overpowering. I’d dispense a pump onto my Forea Luna Mini 2, then with 2 wet fingers, massage the bristles in a circular motion. The cleanser immediately produces a loose foam and I think this is enough to start cleansing.

A quick test with my super basic pH strip showed a pH level of around 5.5. This mildly acidic level is highly suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin. Alkaline cleansers with a pH level of 7 and above do strip and dry out my even but even overly acidic ones with a pH level of 4 tend to hurt my skin and turn it beet red too.

I use this cleanser in the morning, after a first cleanse with a miscellar water. I’ll massage the cleansing device around my face for nearly a minute, then use my hands to spread the foam to my eyes for a very brief second then rinse off with lots of lukewarm water. The cleanser has a slippery feel and doesn’t rinse off immediately. It took a few more splashes of water to totally get rid of the soap sensation as compared to a higher pH cleanser. I find that I get this sensation with almost all clean and green cleansers that don’t use SLS and SLES.

Immediately after cleansing, my skin feels soft, smooth, not tight, and of course, clean. Normally, I’d pat a toner into my skin around 15 seconds after drying off. But to experiment with the effects of this cleanser, I decided to wait 10 mins. A mildly tight sensation would only set in around the 10-min mark. I find this highly impressive as my skin is prone to dehydration.

Aside from being extra soapy, this cleanser is pretty impressive. I highly recommend it to all skin types. For $28, you get a huge amount of product. With my current usage of 1 pump a day, I’m estimating that this will last me 6 months.
