Review: Lovemore Black Pearls True White Mask Sheet ★★★☆☆
Lovemore Black Pearls True White Mask Sheet, as the name suggests, features black pearl as the main ingredient to hydrate and brighten the skin. In traditional Chinese medicine, black pearl has been used for centuries achieve bright, clear skin.
Key ingredients and benefits:
Polygonum Multiflorum Root Extract fights inflammation and repairs DNA to achieve anti-aging benefits.
Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract is rich in flavonoids and saponins, which are sources of antioxidants and protect the skin against free radicals that cause damage and signs of aging.
Ganoderma Lucidum Extract helps reduce skin inflammation, puffiness, wrinkles and free radical damage, while promoting cell regeneration.
Hydrolyzed Pearl contains an abundance of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and a complex protein conchiolin, which has the ability to lighten skin tone.
Aside from these beneficial ingredients, this sheet mask also contains alcohols and parabens. I have no issues with parabens and alcohols will only dry out my skin if the rest of the ingredients are not hydrating enough. But if you react badly to these ingredients, it’s best to stay away. Also, from the packaging, royal honey was highlighted as one of the ingredients but it wasn’t listed in the ingredients list. I find that highly puzzling.
My skin is feeling sensitive and even more prone to dehydration due to the sudden drop in temperatures. I’ve cleansed and toned my skin. Find out how I normally prep my skin for masking.
Upon opening the packet, I detected a moderately strong fragrance. Not the oriental herbal scent I was expecting. Essence was clear and runny.
The 100% natural silk material contains 18 kinds of amino acids, and is gentle and non-irritable. It was so light and thin that it had to come sandwiched between a perforated plastic backing and a thick fabric backing. The trick to applying such a hard-to-handle material is to remove the plastic backing, then place the mask side on the face, then peel off the fabric backing from the outside. The fabric backing helped the mask to retain its shape without flopping around too much during application.
Fit and adherence were great, largely thanks to the thinness and softness of the silk material. The sheet was also so large that it touched my top hairline, had excess on the sides, as well as completely cupped my chin. However, the mouth hole was just a slit and I found that really small and uncomfortable as the essence tended to drip into my mouth. There was a moderately strong tingle around my mouth area 10 mins into using this mask. Hence I’ve cut open the philtrum piece and folded it outwards.
I had the mask on for 20 mins, it was starting to show white patches and dry out.
There was hardly any essence left to pat in. Whatever little was left absorbed with ease, leaving behind a non-tacky and matte-looking finish.
My skin felt hydrated but not moisturized. This will not be sufficient for dry skin but will be a suitable one for oily skin in the day. I layered a gel moisturizer on my combo skin post-masking and that felt perfect.
The greatest improvement I saw was definitely to the tone of my skin. In general, it had become a shade lighter. At targeted areas, I noticed my PIH looking less dark and less contrasted against my skin tone. Redness, however, was only mildly subsided. I was satisfied not to have my redness amplified due to the stinging sensation.
My skin also felt plump and supple. So much so that my skin texture looked smooth with smaller pores and lesser fine lines.
Below is a side by side comparison of the before and after pictures.
Despite having amazing results myself, I don’t feel comfortable recommending this mask to everyone due to the presence of alcohols and parabens. These are potentially sensitizing ingredients and only try this mask if you are sure you will not react negatively to them. Instead, I recommend Lovemore’s Herba Saussurea Involucrata Revival Mask Sheet. It had great ingredients and gave me impressive results. Check out more Lovemore reviews here.
