Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Creamy Mask

Review: Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Creamy Mask ★★★★.☆

Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Creamy Mask is an anti-aging creamy mask with innovative Double Wrapping Sheet™.

Double Wrapping Sheet™ is Sulwhasoo’s patented technology developed especially for this product that aids the seamless, easy absorption of the cream as it adheres comfortably on the skin. The result: radiant, firmer-looking skin veiled with an elegant luminosity.

The rich, creamy texture of the essence provides a nourished yet refreshed finish, while the dual structured sheet doesn’t leave a sticky residue.

Containing highly concentrated amounts of Sulwhasoo’s patented ginseng saponin, Compound K, this mask delivers the extraordinary benefits of the cult favorite Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream EX. It helps provide intensive moisture, improving skin’s visible firmness, radiance and clarity.

In skin care, ginseng is prized as an anti-aging ingredient because it has so many phytonutrients, and because it helps tone and brighten skin. Several medical studies have shown its effectiveness in fighting wrinkles due to ginseng’s ability to boost skin-firming collagen. The herb also acts as a whitener, giving the skin a brighter and more youthful appearance.

At $20+ a piece, this is definitely the most expensive sheet mask I’ve ever tried. Sulwhasoo’s range of products belong to the luxury category so I’m not surprised about the price point of these sheet masks.

Before masking

My skin is feeling sensitive and even more prone to dehydration due to the colder temperatures. I’ve cleansed and toned my skin. Find out how I normally prep my skin for masking.

Container

The sheet mask packaging was huge, I’ve never seen anything like it. The mask came in 2 pieces for the top and bottom of the face. Each of those pieces were stored in separate clam-shell plastic containers. Each of those containers then go into a separate foil sachet. The 2 sachets were then connected by a perforation line.

Normally, fishing a sheet mask out of the packaging is a messy and drippy process. But not this. It felt quite dry.

I caught a strong herbal ginseng + alcohol scent the moment I tore open the sachet. There was no messy essence spread around the sachet nor the plastic containers.

Essence

I’ve never tried Sulwhasoo’s Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream EX so I couldn’t make any comparison. But the cream in this mask felt silky smooth and had more of an emulsion texture. All the white creamy essence was evenly coated on the mask sheets. To make the most out of this uber expensive mask, I took the essence that coated the backings and spread it around my face and neck prior to masking.

The whole process was kinda enjoyable to me. I liked how premium everything felt, down to the velvety texture of the giant mask sachets.

Material

The material felt moderately thick, almost like really thick egg membrane. It was glossy on one side and fabric on the other. The glossy side was dry and  printed with Sulwhasoo’s logo pattern while the fabric side was coated with white creamy essence.

During masking

Fit was great! It was large thanks to the 2-piece mask allowing adjustments and manipulation. The holes were appropriately sized and positioned. I was able to get it to fully cover my entire face. The only complaint I have in this department is the lack of chin material. I have a pretty small chin yet the material did not full cup my chin.

Adherence was great as well, except for the chin area since there wasn’t enough material to cup my chin, the sheet just hung loose there. I was impressed by how the sheet curved and conformed to my features without any lifts.

It felt so soft and comfortable that I had the mask on for a whopping hour and a half. The recommended wait time is 20 mins.

After masking

Upon removing the mask, my skin felt cool. It was then that I realized that the material had been a non-porous one and retaining my skin’s heat whilst preventing the essence from evaporating. True to that, there was still lots of creamy essence left on my skin despite how long I left it on. Most sheet masks would’ve been bone dry after an hour and a half.

After massaging the creamy essence into my skin, it left behind a velvety smooth look and a slightly greasy feel. It did not absorbed easily so treat it like you would a thick moisturizer. As someone with dehydration-prone combo skin, I layered a watery toner, essence, and serum prior to using this mask. Hence the hydration and moisturization levels felt right on my skin. Dry skin will really enjoy this due to how nourishing and moisturizing it was. Oily skin might still be able to use it, probably in the colder months or at night.

I was taken aback by how healthy my skin looked! Redness was gone and my skin had a translucent glow. Skin also felt firm yet soft. My pores were also blurred out, it was like I had applied a pore-blurring primer.

The above effects lasted a couple days on me.

Below is a side by side comparison of the before and after pictures.

This is definitely not suitable for regular daily use due to how pricey it is. But I could not disregard the amazing results of this mask. So I’d totally splurge on this on a special occasion like birthdays, if I have money left over after getting the more appropriately-priced favorite, the Overnight Vitalizing Mask Ex.
