Frankincense essential oil has been prized for centuries as a potent beauty treatment — Cleopatra is said to have included it in her regimen. Harvested from the Boswellia tree, this precious ingredient is known for its rejuvenating, tightening and smoothing properties.
My skin is feeling extra irritated and sensitive today due to using an expired sheet mask. I’ve cleansed and toned my skin. Find out how I normally prep my skin for masking.
Out of the packet, I caught a faint herbal scent. That was most likely coming from the frankincense essential oil since fragrance was not listed as an ingredient. The essence had a yellow/brown tint (due to the addition of sodium dehydroacetate, an ECOCERT and COSMOS accepted preservative) and a runny-gel consistency.
The sheet mask material felt very different in this “rich” range meant for dry skin. Previously, it had more of a thin mesh, silk-like quality and came with a backing because of how thin it was. This one, on the other hand, was more of a soft cotton that didn’t come with a backing.
Fit was nearly perfect! I found the mouth and eye holes a tad too small but nothing a scissors can’t fix.
Adherence was also pretty great! I did take some time to smooth out all the air bubbles so the sheet stuck on tightly throughout the entire masking session.
After the 30 min mark, I was highly reluctant to remove the sheet due to the scent. The frankincense essential oil had such a refreshing yet soothing scent, it is now my new favorite scent. I love the scent so much that I kept the packaging with the leftover essence and kept sniffing it over 2 days.
The remaining essence absorbed with ease after some gentle pats. Finish was non-dewy and non-tacky.
The best improvement I noticed was to my redness and sensitivity. My skin felt a whole lot calmer and looked less angry.
Compared to the earlier version, this “rich” range was definitely more hydrating but not in a stifling way. Dry skin will find this more suitable. I felt that even oily skin would enjoy this in the evening or during winter time. I was able to apply a thin layer of moisturizer on my combo skin without getting greasy.
Below is a side by side comparison of the before and after pictures.
Honestly, I’ve been really impressed with all the Inna Organic masks I’ve tried. If I had to be really picky, my favorite is the Lemon-Scented Tea Tree Mattifying Facial Mask with the thinner mesh material. All the other variants are close seconds.
