My skin has been going cray this past week. There are tiny bumps all over my face and some potential cystic acne. So I’ve been on a 2% salicylic acid treatment at night, and even though it got rid of the bumps and prevented the pimple from getting full-blown, it dried my skin out. This is the perfect time to test out a moisturizing mask.
It claims to deeply hydrates skin, smoothes rough to dry skin and leaves skin dewy and supple.
Please ignore the bedhead lol. My skin is showing some redness and bumps that are healing. It’s not showing up in this picture but there are fine lines on my forehead and the inner corners of my eyes. Strange places to get dryness I know, but those are the spots where I usually dry out first. Before masking, I always prep my skin to ensure that the mask is given it’s full potential. Read about my prepping process here.
When I pulled the mask out of the bag, it felt very stiff. I was wondering how could this fit on my face? But, after playing around with it for a little bit, I noticed that there are 2 protective layers covering either sides of the translucent gel mask. Do not make my mistake of peeling both off first then try to slap the mask on, huge mistake. Not only did the mask crumple up due to how soft it is, it took me alot of time and effort to unravel it and position it on my face. Please read the instructions on the back of the packaging and peel one layer off first, lay the gel side on your face, then peel the outer layer off. The mask sticks to my face contours very well and feels so luxurious. There is also a ton of essence in the bag for the rest of the body. The material felt like a thicker and more opaque hydrogel.
I had this on for about 30 minutes, by then the essence has mostly been absorbed and the edges are dried out, resembling an egg roll skin. It had a very light fragrance and did not irritate my skin at all. There was a very thin layer of essence left upon peeling the mask off. I massaged it into my skin followed by a light moisturizer and eye cream.
There is no drastic visible changes to my skin but it no longer felt dry and itchy. The redness has also been reduced slightly and my skin looks brighter and healthier with a slight sheen to it. It gave my skin a very slight amount of hydration, which my skin absorbed after an hour in and became dry again. Here is a side by side of the before and after for comparison.
I like the immediate effect this gave my skin but I think $6 is too expensive for a moisturizing mask that doesn’t give a long-lasting effect. I’ve tried other moisturizing masks that performed better and cost less, so I will not be repurchasing this. Check out more Leaders reviews here.
