Mud/clay masks that come in sheets always have a special place in my heart. They are convenient, mess-free, and easy to use.
My skin is experiencing some congestion from a week of neglect. I’ve cleansed and toned my skin. Find out how I normally prep my skin for masking.
Out of the packet, I detected a light fragrance. The mask came in 2 sheets for the top and bottom of the face and are sandwiched between 2 thin plastic sheets.
Like all mud/clay sheet masks, the packet is dry, no essence was present. The thin and soft sheets had a bandage gauze weaving and were generously coated with gray clay on both sides. Application was pretty easy thanks to the plastic sheets. I removed one backing, anyone will do, place the mask on my skin then remove the outer plastic sheet. This helped to keep the mask in place and prevented the sides from curling up and sticking onto itself.
Fit was great! The sheets were large and long enough to cover my entire face. Being in 2 pieces also allowed for more flexibility and customization. The sheets were soft enough to fold and manipulate for best fit. The only complaint I have was with the small eye holes. I feel uncomfortable having a clay mask on the skin around my eyes as I don’t think they have a need for it.
Adherence was amazing! The moment the mask touched my skin, it was clinging on for its dear life. Natural fibers were used and the black clay itself was pretty tacky. No amount of contorting my features was able to detach this mask. So make sure the mask is positioned right or else adjustment is going to be very challenging.
The instructions called for a masking duration of 40-50 mins. While it was drying, I did not feel any pulling or stretching though the surface of the mask got drier and stiffer. To prevent it from sucking all the moisture out of my skin, I misted periodically so it did not dry out completely. I took the mask off after 40 mins.
The removal process was a literal pain. It was completely stuck to my skin like a pore strip would. I had no choice but to rip it away from my skin, causing alot of pulling and tugging. The sheet came away in one piece and looked like a 3D masquerade mask. After which I rinsed my face to remove the leftover black clay and patted dry.
My skin looked brighter but was also sporting some wrinkly imprints from the hardened clay mask. PIH, PIE and redness were completely gone, my skin looked devoid of color. Finish was matte and non-tacky. However, my skin did not feel dry nor stretchy at all. It felt like I had normal skin. My pores also looked minuscule which made the texture of my skin looked very even and smooth. Upon touching my skin, I realized that it felt plump, soft, and and very smooth. I followed up with my normal skincare routine.
Below is a side by side comparison of the before and after pictures.
This is another winning mud/clay mask! I highly recommend this for weekly usage for pore upkeep. The only downside is the tough removal. Check out more So Natural reviews here.
