Illi Hanbang Total Aging Care Ginseng Firming Bio Mask is a hanbang-based (inspired by oriental medicine ancient beauty remedies and is based on plants and mostly oriental herbs) hydrogel mask featuring ginseng as the key ingredient.
Along with camellia seed oil, green tea extract, this mask aims to give more elasticity to tired and saggy skin. As pretty as the packaging may be, I had a hard time looking up the varieties as everything was in Korean and the varieties were not clearly stated.

Fear took over me as I came to the realization that I’ll be bidding my 20s goodbye next month. Hence this mask was busted out, in the hopes of fooling nature and myself. I’ve cleansed, exfoliated, and toned my skin. Find out how I normally prep my skin for masking.
Out of the packet, I detected a beautiful floral scent. I was expecting a ginseng scent. The hydrogel mask came in 2 pieces for the top and bottom of the face. They were sandwiched between 2 plastic backings to maintain their shape. The pieces had a regular thickness, just like most hydrogels I’ve tried. At first glance, it looked like one side might have a textured surface and the other might have a smooth surface. But upon closer inspection, both surfaces were equally smooth so it did not matter which side went on the skin. The essence had a gel-like consistency and there was almost no leftovers in the packet. Application was a breeze thanks to the plastic backings.
Fit was great! The pieces were large enough to cover my entire face, which meant it will most likely fit most face shapes. Being in 2 pieces also gave me the flexibility of adjusting for fit.
Adherence was also great! The mask stayed put throughout the entire masking session even though I was up and about.
I took this mask off after 30 mins, it was already drying out hence the removal process felt more like a peel off mask.
There was little to no essence left to pat in. The essence dried down/evaporated quickly, leaving behind a silky, non-tacky finish. Aside from some basic hydration, I did not notice any other effects.
Below is a side by side comparison of the before and after pictures.
From the pictures above, my skin in the before picture looked better than it was in the after picture. I don’t think it did anything for my skin. The only thing I really enjoyed about this mask is the scent. Hence I do not recommend it and will not repurchase.
