My skin is feeling dry and congested today. I’ve cleansed my skin. Find out how I normally prep my skin for masking.
Firstly, I’d like to disclose that I wasn’t pleased with how the package arrived. It was wrapped in thin cushion, then brown paper. This resulted in leaks and mess, which was not only a hassle to clean up but also a waste of precious product. I suggest investing in a better jar with a more secure closure and also better shipping packaging. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the product itself.
I absolutely adore the product packaging aesthetics. Not only is it sensible to use a dark colored glass jar to protect the natural product from photo damage, it also looks professional and clean (at least to me) when paired with a monochromatic label.
Just like honey, this mask has a goopy consistency. But unlike honey, it is in a very deep shade of green, almost black. Within it suspends ultra-fine bits of sand-like particles, I’m guessing these are the bamboo exfoliants. I noticed some separation where the grainy bit were sitting on top of the goop, so I gave it a stir with my spatula to recombine everything.
With that same spatula, I scooped some product out of the jar and smeared it haphazardly on parts of my face like forehead, cheeks and chin, before spreading it out with my fingers. It is recommended to only use a very thin layer of product. I can see why that is since it tends to drip if the layer is too thick. This is something I’ll gladly comply with because it means that a jar of product will last me more uses! A 2 oz jar like the one I have here contains enough product for 10 uses or more.
Application can be a little challenging. It is tough to get a thin layer as the product is highly highly sticky. The process of spreading the product involved pulling and tugging at my skin. Patting the product on will only result in a stringy mess. This was when I accidentally tasted the product and I’m happy to report that it tasted earthy sweet, just like its scent. I also noticed a warm sensation the moment the product touched my skin, the sensation faded very quickly.
I let the mask sit for 40 mins, then splashed my face to wet the mask before lightly massaging it for a gentle physical exfoliating effect. It was very easy to rinse off.
Apologies for the blurry picture.
My skin felt very smooth and baby soft. Hydration was minimal but it did not claim to do that anyway. I also noticed my skin giving off a subtle glow, thanks to the removal of my dead skin cells. Pores were looked smaller and my skin felt balanced. I followed up with my regular skincare. My skin looked great throughout the entire day!
Below is a side by side comparison of the before and after pictures.
I’m loving how natural yet effective this mask is! This will be a great one for double masking (follow up with a hydrating sheet mask) or multi-masking (apply this only to selected areas).
