How to use:

The final step of your evening skincare routine. Apply an appropriate amount to face avoiding the eye and lip areas. Gently cleanse skin upon waking.

100 ml of product comes in a plastic squat jar with a screw on cap. There was also a plastic seal above the inner lid to ensure freshness. Upon removing the inner lid, I was greeted with a strong floral fragrance. The fragrance seems to linger for a couple of hours but is completely undetectable in the morning. Since I have a sensitive nose, I found the scent too intense for me. I prefer my skincare product scentless or mildly scented.

Sporting a light golden yellow color, the sleeping mask has a watery-gel texture with bits of real calendula petals suspended in it. The texture is extremely lightweight and spreads very easily. It almost turns into water when massaged into the skin.

Skin type:

Combo, sensitive, oily nose and chin, prone to redness and dehydration. My skin loses water like a fireman’s hose.

I’ve been applying this sleeping mask over my evening routine for 2 weeks now. As I have combo skin, I apply a thicker layer over the drier parts of my face like cheeks and forehead; and a thinner layer over oilier parts of my face like nose and chin. The initial cooling sensation gave my irritation-prone skin an instant sense of relief. I attribute this to the presence of ethanol as the second ingredient on the list. Redness seem to disappear almost immediately so I don’t have an issue with the alcohol content.

Immediately after application, there is an icky sensation as the gel sits on top of my skin. However, it sinks quickly into the skin, leaving behind a very light hydrating film. Due to the watery-gel texture, this sleeping mask does not provide moisturizing benefit. Instead, it hydrates the skin by adding water to it. Finish is not greasy and not tacky. Perfect for oily and combo skin types.

I do not recommend applying this right after a toner or an essence as the hydration it provides is too light. It works best over a complete evening skincare routine. Dry skin types might find this insufficient for their skin’s needs. However, they might reach for it in the summer as the air is less dry.

Considering how much product comes in a jar (100 ml), I foresee this lasting 2 months with my kind of usage. It is a great sleeping mask for daily basic care. Check out more Mamonde reviews here.

I wonder how is it recommended for a sensitive skin if ethanol is on the second place in the list of ingredients.. I have sensitive skin and I was told multiple times to avoid any alcohol ingredients in cosmetics.

I agree on avoiding alcohol if you have sensitive skin. This is because alcohol can dehydrate the skin. However, if the product comes with glycerin and hyaluronic acid to replenish moisture back into the skin, it reverses what the alcohol does. Hope that helps =)
