Review: Nature Republic Green Derma Real Gauze Peeling Mask ★★★★.☆
Nature Republic Green Derma Real Gauze Peeling Mask is a 2-step self-care mask pack offering convenient peeling and soothing solutions suitable for all skin types. It comes in 2 variants:
AHA Peeling Swab + Ceramide Soothing Mask
BHA Peeling Swab + Hyaluronic Acid Soothing Mask
The one I’m trying today is BHA Peeling Swab + Hyaluronic Acid Soothing Mask. Step 1 is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) peeling swab soaked in essence featuring salicylic acid as the main ingredient. It aims to remove dead skin cells for smooth, clear skin without irritation. It also preps the skin for the absorption of active ingredients later on. Step 2 is a soothing sheet mask soaked in essence featuring hyaluronic acid as the main ingredient. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to deeply hydrate and retains moisture in the skin. Other skin calming ingredients like centella asiatica extract, beta-glucan, and madecassoside are also present.
How to use:
After facial cleansing, prep skin texture with toner.
Use the peeling swab in step 1 to swipe over the face starting from inner part to outer part. No rinsing is needed, just gently pat for absorption.
Place the soothing mask in step 2 on the face and remove it after 10 – 20 minutes. Gently pat in the remaining essence for better absorption.
My skin is feeling normal to oily as the days get hotter. I’m also sporting a couple of whiteheads on my chin and forehead. I’ve cleansed and toned my skin. Find out how I normally prep my skin for masking.
It’s been 2 years since I’ve had the serious bout of dermatitis, the constant application of centella and madecassoside products have helped a great deal in re-growing my skin barrier. As my skin barrier got stronger, I’ve been introducing acids into my routine. My current routine involves alternating between AHA and BHA every night. I do not end my evening routine without an acid as it’s been helping to keep acne and blackheads under control. As such, I’m currently pretty comfortable with 2% salicylic acid. But the BHA concentration of this peeling swab is not stated anywhere. It would be nice to know especially for those whose skin has a low tolerance for BHA.
The peeling swab has a long handle for an easy application and grip. The cotton swab was soaked in clear runny essence and gave off a light and pleasant scent.
The cotton swab is way larger than typical cotton swabs. This makes application over the entire face much easier and faster. The cotton swab also felt super soft and smooth. I swiped it over my cheeks starting from the area next to my nose. I then applied the swab to my T-zone in circular areas, spending more time on more problematic areas like my nose and chin. The essence absorbed with ease, I did not have to pat it in. It felt slightly hydrating without any finish to speak of. It felt like I’d just patted a runny toner into my skin. There was no stinging sensation on my sensitive skin either.
The cotton fabric felt smooth, soft, and plush. It had a medium thickness due to its plushiness. According to Nature Republic, this type of material has good adhesive power and air permeability for rapid delivery of active ingredients into the skin. It was relatively easy to unfold and apply despite the lack of a backing. Essence was clear and had a thin gel consistency. Like the BHA swab, this was also giving off a light and pleasant scent.
Fit was great! It was a pretty large sheet and the holes were perfectly lined up with my features. The sheet was soft enough to easily manipulate for fit.
Adherence was just a tad shy of being great. It clung on very well for the most part, air bubbles were little to none. But I just wish the fold lines would stay completely flat.
I had the mask on for 35 mins, it was still damp.
After patting and massaging the remaining essence into my skin, finish was slightly tacky and looked silky. The tackiness went away after letting it rest for 10 mins or so.
My skin felt deeply hydrated and nicely moisturized. On my combo skin, it felt just nice for the evening. I added a little gel moisturizer to seal in the hydration overnight. All skin types will enjoy this level of hydration.
My skin texture looked even and felt baby soft and smooth. My skin also looked plump with smaller pores. Redness was mostly gone. There was a radiance to my skin which looked different from the temporary whitening effects I get from most brightening sheet masks.
Below is a side by side comparison of the before and after pictures.
Albeit a little pricier than most masks, this mask does come with an additional chemical exfoliation step. Hence I think the cost-to-effect ratio is still pretty high. All skin types can really benefit from it, unless you have a known intolerance to BHA. The other variant, AHA Peeling Swab + Ceramide Soothing Mask, is definitely on my to-try list!
